  Pediatrics
The number of commercially available medications in the United States keeps increasing annually; however if they are not FDA-approved for infants and children, the corresponding dosage forms may not be suitable for use in such population. This is the reason why it can be a real challenge for physicians to treat children. This challenge is further complicated by the fact that a lot of the approved medications for infants and children are not palatable. Solutions Specialty pharmacists will work with pediatricians, family practice physicians and other practitioners to provide your children with the individualized specialty care they deserve. Our pharmacists are trained problem-solvers and possess the necessary creativity to assist other health practitioners in developing new formulations and compound palatable medications thereby increasing compliance in this population. We also have the ability to compound sugar-free, lactose-free, alcohol-free, and dye-free medications for those special, special kids.

Infants and young children require doses based on body size and weight. Not only can we compound a special dosage form but we can also make the exact dose for each child. An example of this is a child having bouts of nausea and vomiting. It is does not take much vomiting to cause dehydration in children and we know that it is next to impossible for them to take oral medications during this time. It may be traumatic for a child to have an injection and it will take much coaxing to try a suppository. At Solutions Specialty, we can compound nausea medication in topical gel form at your child’s exact dose. Other specialized dosage forms include flavored oral solutions and suspensions, topical liquids, creams and ointments, suppositories and inhalations.

Call Solutions Specialty Pharmacy at 702-792-3777 and speak with one of our pharmacists to discuss an alternative dosage form or a palatable medication for your child and patient.
